Charleston Restaurants: Peninsula Grill

Our rating: 3.5 stars

Reservation required: Yes (they have a tiny dining room)

Dress code: Attire is casually elegant, collared shirts are required for the main dining room.

Dessert-only seating begins at 9 p.m. on weekdays and 10 p.m. weekends.

Price:

For three people and finer dining, this was probably a lower priced option than the other local restaurants. The prices were all over the board. They had a kid’s menu with great prices, too.

For three of us with two adult entrees, one kid’s entree, and two desserts, we were at $186 (with the tip).

We did get drinks at the bar before-hand which was $27 (with the tip) for a total cost of about $213.

Service:

Slow. We had a 7:15pm reservation and our table wasn’t quite ready when we arrived because we were early, so we sat at the bar and had a lovely chat with the two bartenders. Our table was supposedly ready at 7:15pm but when we walked up to be seated, we had to stand and wait a couple more minutes.

When we were seated, we waited 10 minutes just for our waiter to show up at which point, we were given the menus and some water (we still had our drinks from the bar). It took another long period of time before our order was taken, food to arrive, and so on. We didn’t leave until after 9pm.

Food:

Hot! Everything came out super hot and delicious!

Josh had Sea Bass, the fish of the night, I had their signature chicken dish, and Aden had chicken tenders and french fries.

For dessert we split their famous coconut cake and some chocolate mousse.

All of it, very good.

Atmosphere:

We were discussing the atmosphere on the way home. For a restaurant that desires to be very elegant, our waiter was very chatty and it was overall a very casual experience. For some, that’s perfect, but it wasn’t what we were expecting or what we had hoped for when paying over $200 on a dinner bill for 3 people.
