Top 5 Essentials to Pack for International Flights

I'm all about keeping it light when I travel, but I make sure to pack smart, especially when heading to Europe with just a carry-on and a backpack. Comfort is non-negotiable for me, and here are five must-haves that join me on every international flight:

Flight Essential 1: Blackout Bliss: An Eye Mask

Flight Essential 1: Eye Mask

On overnight flights, uninterrupted sleep is a precious commodity. That's where my trusty eye mask comes in, ensuring I'm not bothered by random lights and can land ready to explore. I use this eye mask to keep my surroundings dark.

Flight Essential 2: Sole Comfort: A Comfy Pair of Socks

Flight Essential 2: Socks

I'm that person who kicks off their shoes mid-flight, but don't worry—I stash them away. Instead, I slip into these comfy socks with grippers. The comfort is for my sleep and the grippers are nice for those bathroom trips. It may seem gross, but socks are far easier to wash than shoes, so I prefer to wear them for the duration of the flight, put them in a plastic bag, and wash them in super hot water after my flight.

Flight Essential 3: Elevation Euphoria: A Foot Rest

Flight Essential 3: Foot Hammock

One of my most recent discoveries is a foot hammock like this one! The simple act of elevating my feet adds a new dimension of comfort, whether I'm engrossed in a movie or seeking the perfect sleeping position. This ingenious contraption effortlessly attaches to the food tray, providing unparalleled convenience and comfort throughout the flight. It has become a non-negotiable companion on all my overseas adventures.

Flight Essential 4: Sonic Sanctuary: Good Ear Plugs or Noise-Cancelling Earphones

Flight Essential 4: Ear Plugs

No one likes being jolted awake by the airplane dings. Ear plugs and noise-cancelling earphones are my heroes. Paired with my eye mask and foot hammock, they create a serene space for a good sleep. These ear plugs are a life-saver.

Flight Essential 5: Personal Cocoon: A Blanket

Flight Essential 5: Blanket

While some flights offer blankets, I bring my own. I prefer compact ones that clip onto my backpack like this one. They're perfect for when I decide to catch some in-flight Zs, ensuring I'm snug and comfy. I don't always need a blanket when I fly, but if I know I'm going to be sleeping, I always have a blanket with me.

Except for the blanket, these items effortlessly coil up into a compact bundle, occupying minimal space in my bag. Surprisingly missing from my essentials? A travel pillow. I've yet to find one I like, and honestly, my jacket or sweatshirt does the trick, saving space and keeping me comfy. What are your flight essentials?

Yes, to all of those! (I did find a memory foam neck pillow that scrunches up in a small bag that helps save space and is less cumbersome than others.)

The problem I’ve had with neck pillows is that they push my head forward and I don’t love that… maybe I need to give it another try, but my sweatshirt is pretty snuggly! 😄
